Is Your Website Giving Off the Black-Hat Vibe?

Every competent digital marketing professional knows to stay well away from black-hat tactics that can get you in deep trouble with search engines. Are you noticing a drop in rankings or getting penalised for violating optimisation guidelines? It might be that your website suffers from technical search engine optimisation (SEO) problems that are giving search engines some negative vibes.

  • Redesign or Migrating Error – Reinventing your website is absolutely necessary especially if it is awfully out dated. The challenge lies in not losing your rankings and traffic in the process. Talk to your SEO provider about how to fix those dreaded 404 Page Not Found errors.
  • Cloaking – Cloaking happens when there are exact match anchor text links on a page that aren’t readily visible. Most internet users may not be aware of it, but search engines can definitely see through this trick, which is why it’s considered a black-hat tactic. You might even be unwittingly doing it.
  • Bad Code – If your website has dozens of pages with duplicate content, it’s bound to raise a red flag. A good way to avoid getting penalised is to uses canonical URLs that allow search engines to link back those pages the main pages. Otherwise, your website is bound to give off all the wrong SEO signals.
These are only a few examples of what could go wrong with your website’s technical SEO. The occasional website audit should help resolve these problems before they cause real damage.
